Blast rocks Kabul’s diplomatic zone, health ministry confirms 13 dead

A motorcycle-borne suicide bomber blew himself at Kabul’s diplomatic zone on Tuesday, killing at least 13 people and injuring another 15.  “Our initial information shows the suicide attacker was on a motorcycle. He made it through the first checkpoint but was stopped at the second checkpoint and detonated,” a defence ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri was quoted as saying by AFP.

The explosion occurred inside Kabul Green Zone close to Australian embassy.  The area has been cordoned off and most of the injured are feared to be government employees.

As per a report in Afghanistan’s Tolo News, the health ministry confirmed that at least 13 people died in the explosion and 13 others are feared to be injured. Witnesses present in area of attack said the casualties are being taken away by ambulances.
